FAQ:  How long does the collar battery last?
Answer: Depending on your usage and collar settings the batteries can last up to 6 months before they need to be recharged.

FAQ:  To recharge the collar, do I need to replace/remove the battery?
Answer: No. The collar charges the same as you would your cellphone. A charger is supplied with each live collar and plugs directly into the collar. A LED light on the collar indicates battery health, charging and full.

FAQ:  How do I now if the battery is low and needs recharging?
Answer: A battery low alarm is sent to the user via email and/or SMS before the battery runs flat. The battery level can be monitored all the time by viewing the collars data on your computer.

FAQ:  Do I need to collar all my animals?
Answer: No. The collar alarms are based on the science of mimicry and syndromic surveillance for proactive risk management and send alarms before and while animals are being disturbed. It is therefore only necessary to have at lest one live collar per animal splinter group.

FAQ:  What if they attempt to steal an animal without the collar?
Answer: The collars send alarms proactively before and while a single animal can be isolated. The individual targeted does not have to be the collared individual to trigger an alarm.

FAQ:  Is it possible to cut the collar off?
Answer: No. The collar has a built-in 10mm stainless steel strap. In any event an animal must first be caught to get to the collar during which many alarms will be triggered.

FAQ: Does the collar need cellphone reception to work or does it communicate via satellite?
Answer: Yes and no. The collar receives its positional data from the GPS satellite constellation and send its encrypted data via the GSM networks to our servers. The data is then decrypted, processed and stored. Should the data contain alarms the alarms are sent to the user. This all happens in a matter of seconds and requires no human intervention.

FAQ:  Do I need to plant poles on my land for collars to have reception?
Answer: No. The collars send their data via the GSM networks.

FAQ:  Do I need to install software and receive training to be able to see where my animals are?
Answer: No. Live monitoring is via the internet on your mobile phone (www.hoteye-lite.co.za) and/or computer (www.hoteyebasic.co.za). Alarms contain the map image of your animals last/present location and requires no login.

FAQ:  What is the life span of a collar and its battery?
Answer: A collar's life span is 10 years SABS. Should the collar belt be damaged through wear or the battery fail they can be refurbished/replaced.

FAQ:  How many collars do I need per animal group?
Answer: We recommend a minimum of 1 live and two dummy collars per animal splinter group.

FAQ:  What are dummy collars and what is their purpose?
Answer: A dummy collar looks exactly the same as a live collar except that it contains no electronics. It servers as a deterrent.

FAQ:  Why don’t I have to collar all my animals?
Answer: The collars function on a proactive risk management concept which alerts proactively. To collar all animals is labour intensive, costly and in most cases unnecessary.

FAQ:  What do I do should a collar stop functioning or breaks?
Answer: Please send it directly to us via speed or regular registered post for servicing: PO Box 15071, Lyttelton, 0140, RSA.

FAQ:  Where are your factories, offices and servers located? Why don’t I have access to it?
Answer: We are a South African company with manufacturing in Belgium, China and South Africa. Or servers are located in offsite vaults according to stringent security protocols. We are a high risk security manufacturer and therefore no access is allowed to any of our facilities.

FAQ:  I prefer local support and to build on a personal relationship. How does it work?
Answer: Distributors, dealers and agents have been appointed. Please visit the website at www.hoteye.co.za to see who your local representative is.

FAQ:  I don’t have a computer, will the collars still work for me?
Answer: Yes. You can view your animals live as well as receive email and SMS alarms on your cellphone. For settings changes you can phone our call centre 0861HOTCALL (468225).

FAQ:  I don’t have cellphone reception on my whole farm. Will the collars still work for me?
Answer: Maybe. Reliable GSM coverage maps are available from us indicating exactly where on your land cellphone reception is available. Cellphone reception is required to receive SMS alarms on your cellphone. Alarms can also be delivered  via email and landline. The collars need to be in a cellphone reception area to send data/alarms. They store the data in memory in the absence of cellphone reception and sends it from memory next time cellphone reception is available. If your high risk areas have sufficient GSM coverage and you are able to receive the alarms the collars are a viable option for you.

FAQ:  Can I use your DIY vehicle tracking and guard monitoring units on the same system as the collars?
Answer: Yes. You can add more collars and even our DIY vehicle tracking and guard monitoring units as you please.

FAQ:  Can I receive alarms on more than one cellphone?
Answer: Yes. You can add multiple cellphone and email addresses to receive alarms.

FAQ:  Can I receive email alarms on my BlackBerry and computer?
Answer:  Yes. Alarms can be displayed on your computer screen as they are generated and you have the option to receive alarms via SMS and email.

FAQ:  Can I monitor my animals and their alarms live on my computer screen?
Answer: Yes. The HOTEYE system is a near real-time monitoring system.

FAQ:  How do I set up a virtual fence around my camps?
Answer: While logged in to HOTEYE select the “Geometries tool” and draw a line around your camp. Double click to give the area a a name and select “virtual fence”. Now link the collars for this virtual fence by selecting “Virtual fencing” under “manage”, “Units”.

FAQ:  Is it possible for the collars to send false alarms?
Answer: The collar alarms are based on the science of mimicry and syndromic surveillance for proactive risk management and false alarms are therefore impossible.

FAQ:  Do I only receive an alarm GPS coordinate on my phone?
Answer: No. Providing only a GPS is of little to no value. An alarm contains the collar name, a map image of the last/present position and accuracy thereof, a detailed alarm description, alarm time stamp and GPS coordinates.
